Cameron Brink saves Stanford women's basketball as Team USA phenom makes history

Brink became second in NCAA women's basketball history with 72 consecutive made free throws. She's three makes behind Michelle Gaislerova's record. After shooting 61.5 percent from the line two seasons ago, the streak is even more remarkable.

Following a Blue Devils intentional foul, the forward's final two conversions sealed the win. Brink had a career-high 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks.

The Cardinal star was MVP at Team USA's FIBA 3x3 World Cup gold medal win in 2023. She won 2019 and 2018 FIBA U19 and U17 World Cup gold medals.

Brink was projected as a top-10 choice in the 2024 WNBA Draft, and her stock is improving with each game.

No. 6 Stanford's early-season triumph against Duke was crucial to staying undefeated as other elite programs struggled. LSU, UConn, and Iowa have struggled in early campaign weeks. The Cardinals are 4-0 after defeating then-No. 9 Indiana on Nov. 12.

Stanford teammate Kiki Iriafen added 27 points, continuing her year-over-year surge. Iriafen averaged 6.7 points and 3.8 rebounds in 12.1 minutes last season. She's nearing 20 and 10 this year.

"This was Cam and Kiki's first 30-minute game," head coach Tara VanDerveer told the San Francisco Chronicle. "They had to experience that, and it was a difficult game to play 30 minutes and not get fatigued. This game has some positives."

Brink and Co. will face tough competition in Pac-12 action late next month, even though the Cardinal have no ranked teams left on their non-conference schedule.

UCLA, Utah, Colorado, and USC are all in the top 10 as West Coast women's basketball thrives.
