Hebert on Angel Reese, LSU situation: 'You still have to make an effort'

Nothing embodies the wild start to LSU women's basketball's title defense campaign more than the player's unexplained absence of standout forward Angel Reese.

Head coach Kim Mulkey has declined to provide information on the absence of the junior, who broke records and gained widespread attention during her sophomore campaign.

Many of the rumors have been focused on possible academic problems. This week, Bobby Hebert and Mike Detillier of WWL offered their opinions on the matter.

Even though you're getting paid, I'm not sure what you could possibly be in trouble for—I'm just speculating—because you are a college student and it happens in all sports.

So you still need to show up for class and put in some effort, right? I feel as though I no longer want to attend school. However, you're just playing. You still need to show up for class and put in some effort."

Without Reese, the Tigers easily defeated Southeastern Louisiana and led 31 points at the half as they looked to be well on their way to victory over Texas Southern.

Nevertheless, LSU lost to Colorado to start the season and dropped from first to seventh in the nation. The LSU women's team will face tougher opposition shortly as No. 9 Virginia Tech visits the PMAC on November 30.

"I think Kim Mulkey has handled this pretty well, whatever the situation is," Detillier stated. "whether it's grades or anything else, she's experienced this before."
